Chris' enlistment with the Army Reserves began in a manner that he would have never expected. It was in the waning months of 1999 , that Chris received one of the best opportunities of his life. Being asked to serve as Director for Youth Outreach for Northern California in the Bush for President campaign, Chris found himself right in the middle of a major national presidential campaign. His hard work paid off, and in early June of 2000, was promoted to Deputy Director for the Northern California campaign effort. Attending the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Chris was instilled with the greatest sense of pride in his nation, and yet humbled with an even deeper need for service to America.
In the aftermath of that tumultuous election in November 2000, Chris fulfilled his obligation only days before President George W. Bush was inaugurated and signed on the line to enlist in the US Army Reserve. He shipped out May 31, 2001, and began the experience of a lifetime. Quite obviously, the following months would change both Chris and the country, as the nation experienced one of the most horrific events in its history. Returning from active military service in December of 2001, and beginning his remaining 5-year reservist commitment, Chris was intent on finishing school and preparing for his next stage in education. Above anything else however, the tragic events of 9-11 forged a commitment to his country and his community. September 11 inspired many people to do not just good things, but to begin remarkable endeavors. Thus, with a continued commitment to America's communities, he filed the papers and ran for office on the Sacramento Central Committe.
In the midst of his term, his unit, the 319th Signal Battalion was called to service by the President to support the war effort in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It is here where the greatest changes to his life are yet to come...
